Overview
A rare and highly collectible Rolex Oyster Perpetual "Bubble Back", reference 5015, dating to 1949. Housed in a 32 mm yellow gold case, this automatic chronometer features a beautifully aged silver dial and comes with its original Rolex chronometer papers, service paperwork from Rolex, Army funds paperwork, and other historical Rolex paperwork. A classic example of early Rolex engineering, showcasing the iconic "bubble back" case design and historic charm. Original papers and receipts are included with the timepiece. This watch is all original by Rolex except for the leather band and buckle. The watch had one sole owner, belonging to a US Army Cpt.
Case
The solid 14k yellow gold case measures 32 mm in diameter and features an engine-turned bezel. The hallmark “bubble back” case profile accommodates Rolex’s early automatic movement. The silver dial has developed a warm patina over time, with faded numerals and markers that reflect decades of history. The watch has a vintage domed plexiglass crystal.
